September 2006

In September the whole family went to Konza Prairie. A bus traveled outside in the country side. We saw real Bison, which do not have contact with humans regularly. It was amazing for me to see this big animal moving around the bus. It seemed that they did not recognize us. I have only seen bison in the zoo. Because of this it was a strange feeling and a nice adventure.(Daniel)

The prairie was particularly beautiful this fall because we had a lot of rain in August. The wild flowers were very showy. We also found a 5th-instar Monarch on the path in the oak woods, and took him home to finish up on the milkweed in our garden. None of the prairie milkweed had any leaves left, of course, at this late date.(Ruth)

On Halloween as most of you probably know, we went trick or treating. Daniel was a snowman, which was probably because he was use to the warm German climate. Therefore, because he was a Snowman, he could wear warm clothes. As he was made of snow he could keep my collected chocolate cold. I was a rover intended to go to houses in search of chocolate. I had special instrument for collected chocolate. First, I had a chocolate sensor that located the chocolate. Second, I had panoramic cameras to guide me to my destination. Next, I had a robotic scoop for picking up the chocolate. Finally, the robotic arm inserted the chocolate into the cargo bay. Daniel and I designed a pumpkin that was a mathematical equation 0^(1/2) - 2 < pi. Mango (our parrot) wanted to eat the pumpkins. She was not satisfied with the left overs or she did not like math. When we had the thanks giving meal, Daniel took picture of all the different foods. He did not know the different between pie and cake. Therefore Mom had to teach him the difference. (Ian) Thanksgiving was 3 days long. We decided not to eat all 3 days long. Therefore we make a trip to Kansas City, which is at the border between Kansas and Missouri. We saw the Christmas decorations and light at the shopping center. Also we went to the zoo and enjoyed seeing Kangaroos and Elephants. Ruth fell in love with the parrots. By the way we visited the art museum. As a result we found birdies on the grounds. Ruth and I thought giants had lost their birdies in the high grasses. (Daniel)
